Researchers from the University of Groningen and Osaka University Co-publish Findings on Heart Failure

An international research group led by Assistant Professor Ryoto SAKANIWA of Osaka University’s Graduate School of Medicine and Dr. Jasper Tromp of the University of Groningen’s University Medical Centre Groningen co-published a study on heart failure on 7 June 2023. The University of Groningen is a strategic partner of Osaka University.

The study analyzed and evaluated data on renal function markers and heart failure hospitalizations over 11 years in approximately 7,000 European participants. Renal function markers, which were considered to be highly variable when evaluated over a short-term period, showed a nearly constant trend over time when analyzed during a long-term period, as well as a close relationship between them and the development of heart failure.

The outcomes of this research are expected not only to provide useful scientific evidence for heart failure prevention measures but also to serve as an example of the beneficial use of health information over time, such as specific health checkups and health examinations in Japan, where there is still much room for further utilization.
