Four researchers including Professor Fabrice Kordon, Director of LIP6, a computer science research laboratory at Sorbonne University, visited Osaka University (OU) on 30 May 2023. Sorbonne University signed an inter-university agreement with OU in 2020, and LIP6, jointly established with the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) is positioned as one of the largest informatics research institutions in France.
First, the delegation from LIP6 visited SANKEN (The Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research), where they met with Professor Takeharu NAGAI, Vice Director, and Researcher Taishi KAKIZUKA. Professor NAGAI provided an explanation of the trans-scale scope AMATERAS, which was developed with the Transdimensional Life Imaging Division of the Institute for Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives at OU. The delegation commented on image processing technology from the viewpoint of informatics and exchanged information with the OU members.
After the meeting, they saw AMATERAS firsthand, installed at SANKEN, while a detailed explanation was provided by Associate Professor Taro ICHIMURA, Transdimensional Life Imaging Division, Institute for Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives. A lively discussion took place on the possibility of further collaboration with LIP6 in the future.
Following the discussion, the participants exchanged information on their respective institutes with Associate Professor Andrew Morrison, Research Manager of the Quantum Information and Quantum Life Research Center (QIQB). Professor Masaharu NOMACHI, Regional Director of the OU European Center for Academic Initiatives also attended the meeting and mutually shared information on the master's program in informatics at Sorbonne University and the exchange student acceptance program at OU. The members talked about the potential for exchanging researchers including graduate students.
On the following day, a meeting was held at the Institute for Datability Science between LIP6 and Professor Hajime NAGAHARA and Associate Professor Yuta NAKASHIMA. It is expected that new research exchanges will be launched between LIP6 and OU’s relevant research institutions.
